Missoni Home Nastri Bordeaux Tea Cups & Saucers, Set of 2

Missoni's Nastri Bordeaux pattern on fine bone china, in a Missoni gift box: made for tea or a cappuccino-size pour.

The Missoni Home Nastri Bordeaux tea cups & saucers are a set of 2 from Missoni Home's tableware collection, measuring Cup Ø 3.3 x H 2.4 in (8.5 x 6 cm); saucer Ø 6.1 in (15.5 cm) and holding 7.4 fl oz (22 cl). Nastri means "ribbons" in Italian, and the pattern lives up to it: bands of blue, bordeaux, purple, beige, green and orange cross the white porcelain. Missoni built the series around three ideas, harmony, classicism and elegance, so each colour is placed to work with the others.

Why we carry it

We've been curating design-led pieces since 2009, and Missoni is one of the few fashion houses whose home collection holds up on its own. The patterns are the same ones the house built its name on, so a single tea cup & saucer brings the whole Missoni story to the table.

The Missoni story

Ottavio and Rosita Missoni founded Missoni in 1953 in Gallarate, northern Italy, as a small knitwear workshop. Their zigzag and striped knits made the name world-famous in the 1960s. Missoni Home grew out of the family's furnishing fabrics, and Rosita Missoni went on to lead the home collection from the 1990s. Today the tableware is designed in Italy and sold through luxury department stores and design boutiques worldwide.

Worth the investment

Used twice a week for ten years, $340 comes to about $0.33 per use (our math). Bone china, with its bone ash content, is valued for being lighter and whiter than ordinary porcelain.

Buy once: durability and care

The distributor lists it as dishwasher safe. Use a gentle cycle, skip abrasive pads, and avoid sudden temperature changes (our advice). Bone china is light but it is still porcelain: stack with care.
