Plinth LED White Alabaster Wall Sconce, 5.25 in, Dark Bronze or Natural Aged Brass, by Maxim

The Maxim Plinth wall sconce is a transitional fixture for a hallway, a stairway, a living room wall or either side of a bed. It is 5.25 in (13.3 cm) wide and 15 to 23.75 in high and sits 1.5 in (3.8 cm) off the wall, with built-in LED, in Dark Bronze or Natural Aged Brass.

The LED is built in, so there are no bulbs to replace, and it gives 520 to 1000 lumens, with a color temperature you set at install. It is ADA compliant at 1.5 in (3.8 cm) deep, so it suits corridors, hotel rooms and other commercial spaces. Maxim rates it for Triac or ELV dimming. White Alabaster softens the light and cuts glare at eye level. Choose Dark Bronze or Natural Aged Brass to match door hardware, picture frames or a nearby ceiling fixture; it suits Transitional schemes.

Where it works best

In a hallway or living room, center each sconce at roughly eye level, about 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) up, with 8 to 10 ft between fixtures. Next to a bed, place it 2 to 2.5 ft over the mattress top so the light falls on a book. On a stairway, keep each sconce the same height above the treads. Either side of a bathroom mirror, mount them at about eye level, 36 to 40 in apart, for even light on the face.

Who this is not for

It is damp rated, so a bathroom or covered porch is fine, but not a spot exposed to rain or shower spray.

Why we carry Maxim

Maxim matches its finishes across collections, so a chandelier, its pendants and its sconces read as one scheme. That is how we build a room around one fixture.

Care and installation

Dust with a soft, dry cloth; clean glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner, with the power off. Have a licensed electrician wire it. Assembly sheets: 18231 (PDF), 18232 (PDF).
