Where it works best
A semi-flush mount hangs a few inches below the ceiling, so light spreads across the ceiling as well as down. It works best on ceilings of 8 to 9 ft; keep at least 7 ft of clearance below it in a walkway. For a room, add its length and width in feet; the total in inches is a good diameter (a 10 x 12 ft room takes about a 22 in fixture).
Who this is not for
It is dry rated, so it is not for a shower area, an uncovered porch or other damp spots. Bulbs are sold separately.
Why we carry Maxim
Maxim matches its finishes across collections, so a chandelier, its pendants and its sconces read as one scheme. That is how we build a room around one fixture.
Care and installation
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. A qualified electrician should make the connection. Assembly sheet: 12040 (PDF).
Frequently asked questions
What size room is the Dawn semi-flush mount right for?
The 12 in size suits a room of about 6 x 5 ft, a hallway or a closet.
Will it work with a low ceiling?
Yes. It is 9 in (22.9 cm) tall at most, so on an 8 ft ceiling it leaves about 87 in of clearance below.
Does it need special bulbs, and can it dim?
It takes E26 Medium bulbs up to 60W, sold separately.
Can I use it in a bathroom or on a porch?
No. It is dry rated for indoor rooms without moisture.
