Foldability Toby Folded Parchment Pendant Light

A large star of folded white parchment, almost 2 ft across, that glows from within when the light is on.

Toby is a statement pendant from Foldability, the studio of Scottish paper artist Kyla McCallum. White parchment is folded into crisp, faceted points over a metal structure, so the shade reads as a sculpture by day and turns into a warm lantern of light and shadow at night. It measures 23.25″ × 23.25″, hangs from a 180″ PVC cord and takes one E26 bulb up to 40 W.

Who this is not for

• Low ceilings or small rooms: at nearly 2 ft across it needs space.
• Bathrooms, kitchens over the stove or anywhere damp: parchment belongs in dry rooms (our advice).
• Anyone who needs bright task light: it is an ambient, decorative pendant.

Why we carry it

We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and we love lights that are made by hand and look it. Foldability is the studio of Kyla McCallum, a Scottish paper artist and set designer who discovered her fascination with origami and geometry while studying in Cologne in 2007 and later earned a Masters in European Design at the Glasgow School of Art. Her folded lighting has been made for clients including John Lewis, Northern and Ted Baker.

Buy once: durability and care

Parchment is light but surprisingly durable when kept dry. Dust the parchment gently with a soft brush or feather duster with the lamp switched off. Keep it dry: no sprays, no damp cloths, and no steam nearby.
