The Flowerpot VP1 Pendant Light is where Verner Panton's legendary design gets serious about scale. The larger of the two original Flowerpot pendants, the VP1 (Ø 9.45") was created in the late 1960s as part of Panton's bold chromatic vision — a world where color was not an accent but an architecture. Six decades later, it remains one of the most recognizable and emotionally immediate pendant lights ever made.

The VP1's genius lies in its construction: two opposing powder-lacquered steel bowls, one convex and one concave, nested together so that the upper bowl reflects light upward while the lower bowl directs a focused pool downward. The result is a pendant that provides both ambient and task lighting simultaneously — and does so in whatever color you choose from a palette of 19 options, from the timeless authority of Matte Black to the sunny defiance of Mustard or Vermillion Red.

Why It Enhances Your Space
Color in a room is often treated as an afterthought — a throw pillow, a vase. The VP1 makes color structural. A single pendant in Cobalt Blue or Vermillion Red becomes the organizing gesture of an entire room, the decision from which everything else follows. And because the VP1 is a great lamp as well as a great object — providing warm, well-distributed light from its dual-hemisphere construction — it earns its place on function as well as form. Hang two or three in a cluster for a bolder effect, or use a solo pendant to punctuate a reading corner or kitchen island.

Why the Design & Quality Justify the Investment
Verner Panton (1926–1998) was one of the most radical designers of the 20th century, and the Flowerpot is among the designs that defined his legacy. &Tradition manufactures the VP1 with powder-lacquered steel to the original specification, in the same color palette Panton intended. Every surface is smooth and consistent; every joint is precise. At $510, the VP1 is priced fairly for what it is: a piece of certified design history, still made properly, in the country where it was born.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between the VP1 and VP2?
A: The VP1 (Ø 9.45") is the larger of the two classic Flowerpot pendants, while the VP2 (Ø 7.87") is the smaller version. The VP1 makes a stronger visual statement and provides more light output; the VP2 suits smaller spaces or works beautifully grouped in multiples. Both use the same two-hemisphere construction.

Q: How many VP1 pendants should I use over a dining table?
A: For a standard 6–8 foot dining table, two or three VP1 pendants hung in a row at consistent height works beautifully. Mixing colors creates a playful, intentional effect. A solo pendant works well over a smaller table or kitchen island.

Q: Is the bulb included?
A: No — the VP1 uses an E26 bulb (max 25W), sold separately. A warm LED E26 at 2700K is recommended for the warmest, most inviting glow.

Q: Can I dim the VP1?
A: Yes, when used with a compatible dimmable LED E26 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch installed by a licensed electrician.

Q: Is the cord color adjustable?
A: The fabric-covered cord is 157.48" and can be adjusted to your preferred hanging height. The cord color varies by colorway — please check individual product images for details.
