A flat disc that floats 2" off the wall or ceiling and throws its light outward in a ring, so the wall glows around a dark moon. The front is MDF: Egoluce supplies it raw white so you can paint it with any water-based paint to match or contrast your wall, or choose it finished in blackboard (write on it with chalk), gold leaf, silver leaf or mirror. Egoluce has made 100% Made-in-Italy lighting near Milan since 1978, working with Italian companies and artisans.

Best for

Hallways, stair landings, bedrooms, restaurant walls and hotel corridors; a group of two or three discs in different sizes and finishes is the classic composition. Our advice: Small at eye height in a hallway or beside a bed, Medium on a feature wall, Large in a double-height stairwell or lobby. Mount it so the halo has at least 8" of clear wall around it.

Who this is not for

• Bathrooms with showers or outdoor walls: IP40 is for dry indoor use.
• Anyone who wants it on the ceiling in the Mirror finish: Egoluce makes Mirror for wall mounting only, and the Large size is a wall light.
• Renters or anyone without an electrician: it is hardwired to a wall or ceiling box.

Why we carry it

We have curated design-led lighting since 2009 and are an authorized Egoluce retailer. Egoluce is the kind of family-owned Milanese maker we like: founded in 1978 by three friends, Bruno, Mario and Renato, still building every fixture in Italy, testing 100% of them before they ship and designing the LED units so they can be replaced instead of thrown away. Egoluce's 0963 spacer kit lets Small and Medium discs overlap on one feed point (special order: contact us). A dimmable DALI version exists on request.

Buy once: durability and care

Egoluce says its aluminum bodies and internal heat sinks are there to extend the life of the LEDs, and that LED units are designed for easy replacement. Our advice for care: switch off, let it cool and dust with a dry microfiber cloth; no solvents on painted finishes; a damp cloth is fine on the blackboard finish, and the raw white disc can be repainted with water-based paint whenever you change the wall color. Egoluce does not publish separate care instructions.

Which color temperature should I choose for the Egoluce Moonlight?

2700K is very warm, candle-like; 3000K is warm white, the usual choice for homes; 4000K is neutral white, crisp and clean. Most of our clients choose 3000K for homes and 4000K for offices and retail (our advice).

How bright is the Egoluce Moonlight?

Egoluce lists the LED source output as: Small (15W): 2700K 1,560 lm, 3000K 1,650 lm, 4000K 1,840 lm; Medium (24W): 2700K 2,496 lm, 3000K 2,640 lm, 4000K 2,944 lm; Large (33W): 2700K 3,460 lm, 3000K 3,700 lm, 4000K 4,150 lm. Color rendering is CRI >90, so wood, fabric and skin tones look true.

Can the Egoluce Moonlight be dimmed?
