Evening light in a lounge, bedroom or hotel suite works best when you can lower it as the night goes on. The Carpyen Capsule does that with a touch dimmer and an LED that warms from 2700 K to 1800 K as it fades.

Its alabaster cylinder and aged brass base suit Minimalist, Transitional and modern interiors, in homes and in hospitality spaces.

Best Rooms and Placement

Set the smallest Capsule on a nightstand or a coffee table, where a low glow replaces overhead light. The two larger sizes carry a sideboard or console, and a trio of three heights reads as a deliberate group. In a restaurant or lounge, place one per table to give each guest a warm pool of light. Leave a few inches of space around each lamp so the stone's glow is visible.

Planning Notes

• Heights run from 19.5 cm (7.7 in) to 30.2 cm (11.9 in); bodies are 13 to 20 cm (5.1 to 7.9 in) wide.
• Weights range from 3.7 kg (8.2 lb) to 8.5 kg (18.7 lb), so plan a sturdy surface.
• The LED is integrated and the dimmer is touch-based, so you do not need a separate dimmer switch.

Who This Is Not For

• Bathrooms or outdoor spaces: it is rated IP20 for indoor, dry rooms only.
• Anyone who wants a replaceable bulb: the LED is integrated.
• Buyers who need an identical look across units: alabaster varies naturally.

Care

Our advice: dust the stone and brass with a soft dry cloth, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners that can mark alabaster.

Designer and Maker

Foster + Partners, founded by Norman Foster in London in 1967, is a global architecture, engineering and design studio whose work extends to industrial design and lighting. Carpyen, founded in Barcelona in 1948, makes it in its own Barcelona workshops.

Why We Carry It

Dimming and warm color shift are the features that decide whether a decorative lamp actually gets used at night, and Capsule has both in a real-stone body.
