The designer: Sebastian Herkner

Sebastian Herkner (born 1981) studied product design at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design and opened his own studio in 2006. He designs furniture, lighting and objects for international brands and is known for his feel for materials, color and texture. Maison&Objet named him Designer of the Year in 2019, and in 2021 he received the EDIDA award for Best Designer of the Year. For blomus he also designed the IRIS lamp.

Why we carry it

We are an authorized blomus retailer and have been curating design-led pieces for the home since 2009. VAHLO is stoneware with a glossy reactive glaze and a shape all its own: squares and rectangles with rounded corners and soft edges, a clear alternative to round dinnerware. The glaze reacts to the kiln, so each piece shows light freckling and small shifts of tone. Moonbeam is a warm cream-beige; Mirage Grey is a light gray with a green cast. Bottoms are left unglazed. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
