blomus MAKOTO Stoneware Vase, Narrow Opening
Couldn't load pickup availability
A compact matte stoneware vase whose narrow opening holds a single stem or branch upright.
The MAKOTO vase is designed by Carsten Gollnick and made in Portugal from stoneware with a matte glaze in warm Nordic tones. Like the rest of the collection, it stands on a subtle base that makes it seem to float. The narrow opening holds stems and branches upright, so one branch makes an arrangement, and the vase is just as good empty as a small sculpture. It measures 5.3" × 5.3" × 4.1" high.

The designer: Carsten Gollnick

Carsten Gollnick (born 1966) founded the German studio Carsten Gollnick Design in 1997. Japan has shaped his work from the start, including the Japanese principle he designs by: no object is more important than another, because even the smallest piece has a use and a meaning. His studio has designed more than 100 products and won the iF Design Award, the German Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.
Why we carry it
We are an authorized blomus retailer and have been curating design-led pieces for the home since 2009. MAKOTO pairs clear geometry with a subtle base that makes each piece seem to float just above the table. Gollnick gave the two glazes deliberately different characters: Moonbeam looks like the landscape of the moon’s surface, while Elephant Skin is smooth and matte. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
Buy once: durability and care
Our advice: rinse by hand and change the water every few days for fresh stems. Each piece is unique: small variations appear during firing and give every piece its character.
