Press the pedal and the recessed lid opens; release it and the soft-close lid lowers quietly. A removable plastic bucket inside lifts out for emptying and cleaning. The designer: Anton Björsing

Anton Björsing (born 1983) is a Swedish designer who trained as a cabinetmaker at Stenebyskolan, studied furniture at Carl Malmsten in Stockholm and then interior and spatial design at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. He has since worked with several of Sweden’s best-known furniture and product companies. His work is rooted in Scandinavian tradition but keeps testing new materials; for blomus he designed the KUA bath series and the ETA side table.

It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
