The designer: Nina Thöming
Nina Thöming (born 1984) is an industrial designer at Flöz Design, a German studio with a long partnership with blomus. She starts from research into how people actually use a space, then shapes objects that solve that need quietly. Her blomus work runs from the SONO and MODO bath lines and PILAR tableware to outdoor pieces such as SPIRIT, CALMA and PLANTO.

CALMA is the blomus candle lantern we like for both garden tables and indoor shelves: a solid concrete base under a glass hurricane that shields the flame from drafts. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
Buy once: durability and care
Wipe the concrete with a dry or slightly damp cloth and wash the glass by hand. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Concrete is a natural material, so slight variations in tone and small pores are part of each base.
