Velo is a simple, beautifully made mini pendant: a cylinder of clear hand-blown glass, five inches across and six and a half inches tall, with a slim glowing light rod running down its center. The clear glass keeps it light and transparent, so a row of Velos over a kitchen island or bar reads as a line of soft glows rather than a wall of fixtures. It works singly beside a bed or in a powder room, in pairs over a breakfast table, and in long rows over restaurant tables, hotel bars and reception counters. Matte Black, White or Polished Chrome sockets let it lean Industrial, Scandinavian or classic Modern.

The light is soft but useful. A 3-watt integrated LED lights the tall inner diffuser and gives 133 lumens of warm 3000K light at 90 CRI, with no bare bulb visible through the glass. The 5-inch canopy holds a universal 120-277V driver, so each pendant mounts to a standard junction box and dims on TRIAC, ELV or 0-10V controls. About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013.
