The light comes from an LED tucked into the socket that shines down through a solid rod of clear cast acrylic, so the edges and the tip sparkle while the body stays transparent. About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013. His focus has always been practical: fixtures built around LED light from the start, with even, glare-free light, here carried down a clear acrylic rod.

FAQ

How high should I hang Tall Clear over an island?

A good starting point is 30 to 36 in from the bottom of the rod to the countertop. Because the pendant is small and clear, you can go a little lower without blocking the view across the kitchen.

How many do I need?

Plan on one pendant every 12 to 18 in along the island or bar. Three works over a short counter; five or six over a long island. For a stairwell, groups of seven or more at different heights look best.

How is it installed?

Each pendant has its own 5 in canopy with the driver inside, which mounts to a standard ceiling junction box. The cable can be shortened on site. A qualified electrician should install it; the instructions are linked above.

Which dimmer should I use?

The built-in universal driver works with TRIAC, ELV and 0-10V dimmers on 120 to 277V circuits.

Clear or frosted?

Tall Clear shows a sparkling, glass-like rod with a bright tip. If you prefer a soft, even glow along the whole rod, choose Tall Frosted, which shares the same size and fittings.
