Steelos is a light sculpture you can hang over a table. Dozens of slim cylinders and acrylic light guides drop on fine cables from a 96-inch (2 x 8 ft) canopy, each at a different length, so the fixture reads as a shimmering field of vertical lines, a little like rain caught in light. The 96-inch system is built from four Steelos Square modules (100 ports in all), which makes it a natural fit for a long dining or conference table, a large kitchen island, a reception desk or a hotel lobby. It ships from the factory in a pre-arranged random pattern, and because every cable is held by an adjustable gripper, the pattern can be re-shaped on site at any time, with no cutting or splicing. In Matte Black or Polished Chrome it brings a striking, Modern and contemporary look to homes, restaurants, hotel lobbies, atriums and corporate spaces.
The light is soft and sparkling rather than harsh. Integrated LEDs at 3000K and 90 CRI glow along each light guide, flattering faces, food and finishes, and the long canopy spreads light evenly along the whole surface below. It runs on 120-277V with universal TRIAC, ELV and 0-10V dimming, so it can be dimmed low for evening ambience or turned up for full light, from a home dimmer or a commercial control system. The drop adjusts from 12 to 106 inches, so it works under standard ceilings and in tall, open spaces.
Why it works as a statement
- Sculptural: cylinders and light guides at random drops from a 100-port canopy create depth and movement.
- Re-shapeable: adjustable grippers let you change the pattern any time, without cutting cords.
- Sized for long surfaces: a 2 x 8 ft canopy built from four 23.9 in (60.7 cm) square modules.
- True color: 90 CRI warm 3000K light.
- Universal dimming on 120-277V: TRIAC, ELV or 0-10V.
- Complete system: joiner and spacer kits included for aligning and connecting the modules.
Where to use it
- Long dining or conference table: center it over a 10 to 12 ft table, a foot or so shorter than the table at each end.
- Lobby or atrium: hang it high over a reception desk or seating area so the cylinders fall into the space.
- Double-height spaces: raise the canopy high and let the cylinders fall long to fill the volume of a two-story room.
- Hospitality and corporate: restaurant dining rooms, hotel lobbies, reception areas and boardrooms.

About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013. His focus has always been practical: fixtures built around LED light from the start, and in Signature Series pieces like Steelos, using many small sources of light to make the fixture itself the art.
FAQ
How high should it hang?
Over a table, keep the lowest cylinders 30 to 36 in above the top. In walkways, keep at least 7 ft of clearance. The cables adjust from 12 to 106 in.
Can I change the pattern?
Yes. It arrives in a pre-arranged random pattern, and each cable is held by an adjustable gripper, so you can raise or lower individual elements any time without cutting or splicing.
What does it mount to?
The modules mount to the ceiling and are joined with the included joiner and spacer kits, which also carry power and dimming between modules. Follow the installation instructions and provide structural support for the full canopy.
Will it work with my dimmer?
Yes in most cases. It supports TRIAC (incandescent-style), ELV and 0-10V dimming on 120-277V.
Matte Black or Polished Chrome?
Matte Black gives a bold, graphic canopy and dark cylinders; Polished Chrome has a mirror-bright faceplate over a black housing that reflects the light guides for extra sparkle.
