About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013. Is it bright enough for a kitchen island?

At 255 lumens it is best as a decorative or ambient layer over an island. Pair it with recessed or under-cabinet task lighting for food prep; over a dining table it gives a warm, relaxed glow.

What size table does it suit?

The 22 in canopy suits round or square tables up to about 48 in and short islands up to about 4 ft. Hang the globes 30 to 36 in above the top.

Do I need a special junction box?
