About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013. How long should a linear pendant be for my island?

Aim for a fixture about two-thirds the length of the island. A 48 in Flair suits islands from about 6 to 8 ft; for longer islands, hang two end to end.

How high should it hang?

30 to 36 in above a kitchen counter or dining table, a little higher over a standing-height bar. The cables adjust on site.

What does it mount to?

A standard ceiling junction box, covered by the 20 in linear canopy. The driver is integrated, so no remote transformer is needed.

Will it dim with a regular wall dimmer?

This version uses 0-10V dimming on 120-277V, the standard for commercial controls. For a home, use a 0-10V-compatible LED dimmer and run the low-voltage dimming wires; your electrician can confirm the right control.
