Cords is the simplest way to build a bare-bulb pendant exactly the way you want it. A round canopy feeds one, three, seven or eleven fabric-free cables, each ending in a clean cylindrical E26 socket, and every cable is cut to length on site. Let them hang straight in a tight bundle over a dining table, stagger them in a waterfall down a stairwell or a two-story entry, or swag them across the ceiling with the optional swag hooks to spread light over a kitchen island, a bar or a lounge seating group. With the bulb of your choice (clear globe, amber filament or frosted) it can read Industrial, Mid-Century, Scandinavian or simply Modern, and it scales from a cozy breakfast nook to a hotel lobby, restaurant or retail space.
Because it takes standard medium-base bulbs, you control the light: a dimmable LED bulb for low running cost, a warm filament bulb for glow, or a large globe for a softer spread. Each socket handles up to 60 W incandescent or a 14 W LED bulb on the 1- and 3-light versions (12 W LED on the 7- and 11-light). The canopy and sockets come in Matte Black or White, with Matte Black or White cable, so you can match the ceiling or make the cords a graphic line. Bulbs are not included.
Why it works
- Four sizes: 1, 3, 7 or 11 sockets on one canopy and one junction box.
- Set every drop on site: cables are field cuttable from 6 to 99 in (15 to 251 cm), up to 20 ft to order.
- Your bulb, your look: standard E26 sockets take LED, filament or globe bulbs.
- Swag it anywhere: optional swag hooks let you carry each cord across the ceiling.
- Two-tone options: Matte Black or White canopy and sockets, with Matte Black or White cable.
- Stem option: a 42 in stem kit with sloped ceiling swivel is available to order for angled ceilings.
Where to use it
- Dining table: a 3-light or 7-light bundle centered over the table, bulbs 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) above the top.
- Kitchen island or bar: a 3-light swagged into a line along the counter, or several 1-lights in a row.
- Stairwells and tall entries: an 11-light with each cord cut to a different length for a cascading cluster.
- Bedside or reading corner: a single 1-light swagged from a ceiling box to hang beside a bed or chair.
- Restaurants, lobbies and shops: a flexible, budget-friendly statement that adapts to each space.

About Blackjack Lighting and Stephen Blackman

Blackjack Lighting is a design- and technology-driven lighting maker based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, outside Chicago. It is led by industrial designer Stephen Blackman, its President and Chief Design Officer. A Syracuse University industrial design graduate, he entered the lighting industry in 1984 at Sonneman Design Group and founded his own studio, Blackman Design Associates, in 1988, designing for manufacturers such as Kichler Lighting before launching Blackjack in 2013. His focus has always been practical: well-made fixtures that are easy to specify and install, and Cords puts that flexibility directly in the installer's hands.
FAQ
How do I set the hanging heights?
Each cable is field cuttable. Decide the drop for each socket (6 to 99 in from the canopy with the standard cable), cut and terminate it as shown in the installation instructions. Over a table, keep the lowest bulb 30 to 36 in above the top.
What do I need in the ceiling?
One standard junction box for the whole fixture. The canopy covers the box and all cords leave from it. For a sloped ceiling, order the stem kit, which includes a sloped ceiling swivel.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with dimmable bulbs. It is a 120V line-voltage fixture, so use a dimmer rated for the bulbs you choose (for example an LED-compatible dimmer with dimmable LED bulbs).
Which bulbs should I use?
Any medium E26 bulb within the wattage limit: up to 60 W incandescent per socket (75 W on the 1-light), or 14 W LED (12 W LED on the 7- and 11-light). Globe and filament LEDs look best with exposed sockets.
How do the swag hooks work?
Swag hooks (95302-BL or 95302-WH, sold separately) mount to the ceiling so you can carry a cord sideways from the canopy and drop it where you want the light, without adding junction boxes.
