The Besa Katie 12 is a flush mount ceiling light. Its glass: Hand-blown Opal Matte glass with radiating ribs: a soft white cased glass, satin-etched on the outside, whose ribs catch the light for a look both contemporary and natural. The ribs give the glow a gentle rhythm without reading as busy. It is sized for bedrooms, home offices, bathrooms and hallways.

Order it with incandescent lamping (2 x 60W A19 medium (E26) base lamps of your choice, not included) or as the LED version with an integrated 20W LED: 2000 lumens at 3000K, CRI 90+, rated 50,000 hours, so there is no bulb to change. The ribbed glass sits on a slim white aluminum pan and is held by three set screws, so it comes off easily for cleaning or relamping. At 12" diameter x 4.5" H it sits close to the ceiling.

Why we carry it

We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Katie brings hand-blown, ribbed glass to a category that is usually plain domes, and the ribs give it real presence. Besa Lighting pairs American design with European glass artisanship: its shades are hand-blown by skilled artisans using techniques passed down for generations, then hand-inspected at Besa’s factory in Ohio for color, pattern, thickness and size before they ship.

Buy once: durability and care

Switch off and let it cool, then wipe the glass with a soft cloth lightly dampened with mild soapy water and dry it; avoid abrasive cleaners (our advice). The LED version is integrated and rated for 50,000 hours. Installation by a licensed electrician is recommended; 90°C supply wire is required for incandescent lamping.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of the Besa Katie 12?

It measures 12" diameter x 4.5" H, per Besa’s spec sheet. Each glass is handcrafted, so allow for slight variation.

How bright is the Besa Katie 12 with LED lamping?

The LED version gives 2000 lumens at 3000K with CRI 90+ and is CL dimmable. The incandescent version takes 2 x 60W A19 medium (E26) base lamps (not included) and dims with a standard incandescent dimmer.

What does the ribbed glass on the Katie 12 do when lit?

The radiating ribs catch the light and give the opal glow a soft pattern, so the fixture looks sculpted rather than flat. Unlit it reads as a clean white dome.

Is the Besa Katie 12 suitable for a bathroom ceiling?

Yes. Besa rates it for damp locations, interior use only, so it suits bathroom, laundry and powder-room ceilings. It is not rated for outdoor ceilings or direct water spray.

Is the Katie 12 LED replaceable?

No: the LED version has an integrated 20W LED rated for 50,000 hours. For replaceable bulbs, order the incandescent version with A19 lamps.

Does the Besa Katie 12 come in other sizes?

Yes: Besa makes the same design as the Katie 10 (10.5" diameter x 3.75" H). It installs to a 4" octagonal outlet box, centered on the fixture; we recommend a licensed electrician.
