Base finishes

The Prisma Spider puts the Prisma seat on a cast aluminum spider base that swivels, so it works equally well at a dining table, a desk or a meeting room. Leave it on floor glides for a dining or conference chair, or add office casters when people need to roll back from a desk; casters raise the seat by about 2 in. The base comes in polished aluminum, black or brass, and the seat is a steel frame with S-shaped springs inside molded polyurethane foam. It brings a Modern, slightly Industrial edge to home offices, studios and boardrooms.

• On glides the 18 in seat suits 29 to 30 in tables; with casters the seat is 20 in, better for desks than low dining tables.
• Choose casters for hard floors and desks; keep glides for dining rooms and rugs.

Care

Wipe faux leather and PPM with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Vacuum fabric seats regularly and blot spills right away. Wipe the metal base with a soft, dry cloth; skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which dull plated and powder-coated finishes. Leather and fabric vary slightly in shade from batch to batch.

Should I choose glides or casters?

Glides keep the chair where you put it, which suits dining and conference tables. Casters let it roll, which suits a desk on a hard floor. Casters raise the seat from 18 in to about 20 in.

Does it swivel?

Yes. The spider base swivels a full turn.

Is the height adjustable?

No. The base swivels but has no gas lift.

How much weight does it hold?

It is rated for 300 lb.

Why do the prices differ?

Faux leather seats cost less than Camira Blazer wool seats, which sit in the top upholstery tier. The brass base finish and the office casters each add a small surcharge.
