Seat. Every Cattelan seat is carved from one solid hardwood: antique-brushed ash, sungkai, mindi in a wenge finish, teak in a walnut finish, or American walnut, which costs a little more. Grain and tone vary from seat to seat, and screens show wood slightly differently than real life.

Leg finishes

Cattelan PR Wood sets the carved Cattelan wood seat on a tall, tapered four-leg frame with a box of stretchers, the most furniture-like of the Cattelan bases. With five leg woods, from pale natural beech to solid American walnut, it can match cabinetry, flooring or a butcher-block island closely. The stretchers give a footrest on every side, and an optional memory swivel turns the seat for easy access and brings it back to center. It is a backless stool that sits comfortably in Mid-Century, Transitional and Scandinavian kitchens.

Planning notes

• Choose Counter (23 in seat) for 34 to 36 in counters and Bar (28 in seat) for 40 to 42 in bar tops; the memory swivel adds about 1 in.
• Match the leg wood to your floor or cabinets: beech natural and sungkai read light, teak wenge reads dark, walnut sits in between.
• Give each stool about 20 to 22 in of counter width.
• Stretchers on all four sides mean any guest finds a footrest, even when stools are angled.

Care

Dust the solid wood seat with a soft, dry cloth and wipe spills right away with a barely damp cloth, then dry. Avoid soaking the wood, harsh cleaners and abrasive pads. Wipe the base with a soft, dry cloth. Each seat is cut from solid wood, so grain and color vary naturally from stool to stool.
