Finish. The frame is solid grade A teak in a natural finish; the seat and back are hand-woven Viro fiber rope, a synthetic wicker that stays stable in heat and cold. Screens show color slightly differently than real life.

The Calava Arm Lounge is a low, laid-back teak armchair whose seat and back are one continuous sling of woven rope, so it reads light on a deck yet sits deep enough for an afternoon with a book. The frame is solid grade A teak with wide flat arms that hold a drink, and the 16 in seat height puts it at coffee-table level. The weave is Viro fiber, a synthetic wicker that keeps its shape and color through heat, cold and rain. It works on a pool deck or balcony and just as well in a living room, lobby or condo amenity space.

Planning notes

• The seat is 16 in high, so pair it with coffee or side tables around 16 to 20 in high.
• Allow a footprint of about 27 x 36 in per chair plus walking room in front.
• Add the matching Calava ottoman to put your feet up.
• The rope seat needs no cushion, so there is nothing to bring inside when it rains.
• Shipping: in-stock lounge chairs ship in 3 to 5 business days. If the version you choose is out of stock or on its way to our warehouse, please allow 10 to 15 weeks for it to ship.

Who it is not for

• Dining tables: it sits too low; see the Alfresco or Palermo teak armchairs
• Anyone who needs a high seat that is easy to rise from
• Spaces that need chairs to stack or fold away

Care

Grade A teak is a naturally oily, weather-resistant hardwood. Left outdoors it slowly weathers to a soft silver-grey, and the grain may rise slightly after the first few soakings. Clean it once or twice a year with a soft brush, mild soap and water; never use a power washer, which erodes the surface. Teak cannot be painted or varnished. For winter storage use a dry shed or garage, and do not move the piece straight from the cold into a heated room, as sudden changes in temperature and humidity can split the wood. Wipe the woven rope with a damp cloth and mild soap, rinse, and let it air-dry in the open.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Calava lounge chair stay outside?

Yes. The frame is weather-resistant grade A teak and the seat and back are Viro fiber rope, which is made to stay stable in any temperature. Cover or store it in long winters.

How high is the seat?

The seat is 16 in high, a relaxed lounge height that suits coffee tables and low side tables.

Does it need a cushion?

No. The woven rope seat and back flex slightly and are comfortable on their own, and they dry quickly after rain.

How much weight does it hold?

It is rated for 350 lb.

Is there a matching ottoman?

Yes. The Calava ottoman uses the same teak frame and woven rope and sits at a matching height.

Why is there only one price?

The Calava lounge armchair is made in one version, natural teak with natural rope, so there are no upholstery or finish surcharges.
