Seat upholstery. Faux leather is the entry option. PPM-FR, S-PPM and PPM are polyurethane performance leathers that wipe clean; the off-white boucle is a soft looped fabric; Camira Era and Camira Blazer wool are woven contract fabrics. Screens show color slightly differently than real life.

Leg finishes

The Avanos Galata is the slimmest Avanos stool: four thin steel tube legs with stretchers that double as an integrated footrest, under the full upholstered shell. The light frame keeps a row of stools from looking heavy along an island or a long restaurant bar, and the tubes are easy to wipe clean. Black is the standard finish; chrome and brass cost a little more and bring a brighter, more Hollywood Regency or Art Deco feel. The fiberglass shell with padded plywood seat is rated for 300 lb.

Planning notes

• Choose Counter for 34 to 36 in counters; choose Bar for 40 to 41 in bar tops. These seats sit a little lower than average.
• Allow about 23 to 24 in per stool.
• Leave 10 to 12 in between seat and counter underside.
• Brass and chrome legs show fingerprints; black is the easiest to keep clean.

Care

Wipe faux leather and PPM with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Vacuum fabric seats regularly and blot spills right away. Wipe the metal base with a soft, dry cloth; skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which dull plated and powder-coated finishes. Leather and fabric vary slightly in shade from batch to batch.
