Frame. The Academy frame is bent steel tube in a matt black or a bronze gold finish; the frame you choose sets the price. Screens show finishes slightly differently than real life.

Seat and back

Academy is a schoolroom-inspired dining armchair: a molded walnut veneer plywood seat and back sit inside one continuous bent steel tube that also forms the arms. With no upholstery to stain, it is a practical pick for busy cafes, staff canteens and family kitchens where chairs get wiped down several times a day. The matt black frame reads Industrial; the bronze gold frame dresses it up for a hotel restaurant or a residential dining room. It weighs only 12 lb, so it is easy to pull in and out from the table.

Care

Wipe faux leather and PPM with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Vacuum fabric seats regularly and blot spills right away. Wipe the metal base with a soft, dry cloth; skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which dull plated and powder-coated finishes. Leather and fabric vary slightly in shade from batch to batch.

Frequently asked questions

Will the arms fit under my table?

The arms are 26 in high. Most 29 to 30 in tables with an apron of 3 in or less leave room for them to slide under.

Is the seat padded?

No. Seat and back are molded walnut veneer plywood. The Academy Soft Seat version adds an upholstered seat.

How much weight does it hold?

It is rated for 300 lb and weighs 12 lb.

Is it good for commercial use?

Yes. The steel frame and plywood shell have no fabric to stain, which suits cafes and canteens that clean chairs often.

Why does the bronze frame cost more?

The bronze (gold) frame has a more involved finish than the matt black frame, so it is priced a little higher. The walnut seat and back are the same on both.

Does it come assembled?

Yes. It ships fully assembled, four chairs to a box.
