Superlight Floor takes the arm of Pablo’s celebrated Superlight task lamp and lifts it onto a slender 47-inch stem with a weighted 8-inch steel base. Every joint turns on three axes: the stem swivels a full 360°, the arm sweeps through 270°, and the head tilts down 90° to point light exactly where you want it, then stays put. The high-output LED array casts one clean shadow, so text and stitches look crisp instead of doubled.

Designed by Peter Stathis and Matthew Boyko for San Francisco’s Pablo Designs, it gives a reading chair or sofa corner real task light while adding almost nothing to the room but a fine line and a dot of charcoal felt. Superlight was Runner Up in the Furniture & Lighting category of the 2018 Core77 Design Awards.

Peter Stathis leads Virtual Studio, a San Francisco design and development studio, and has designed for clients from the Museum of Modern Art to Lava Lite. His work is in the permanent collections of MoMA, Cooper Hewitt and the Denver Art Museum, and has won Red Dot, IDEA and ICFF Editors’ awards. Matthew Boyko, a RISD- and Cranbrook-trained designer who founded Society Creative after Sony, co-designed it.

Is the Superlight Floor Lamp bright enough for reading?

Yes. It gives 700 lumens of 3000K warm white light, roughly what a 60-watt incandescent bulb produces, but focused where you aim it. Full-range dimming lets you turn it down when you only want a soft glow.
