About the designer

Ernesto Gismondi (1931–2020), an aeronautical engineer by training, founded Artemide in 1960 with Sergio Mazza and led it for six decades, turning it into one of the world's leading lighting companies. He also designed many Artemide lamps himself, and in 2018 he received a Compasso d'Oro career award.

Best for

Reading chairs, sofas and living rooms; studios that need light without a ceiling fixture.

Who this is not for

• Bathrooms, showers, covered porches or outdoor spaces: it is rated IP20 for dry indoor locations.
• Anyone who needs it soon when choosing a special-order option: those are ordered from Italy and take 10–16 weeks.

Why we carry it

We are an authorized Artemide retailer and have curated design-led lighting since 2009; Artemide is one of the names our clients ask for by name. We list every Ilio option from Artemide North America's current price book with its exact item number, spec sheet and lead time, so the light you order is the one you planned.

Care

Our advice: switch off and let it cool, then dust with a soft dry microfiber cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners on painted and anodized aluminum. Artemide does not publish separate care instructions.
