Tellium, by Sean Lavin, is a compact display head built around a standard MR16 lamp: a clean cylinder that rotates and pivots to put a precise beam exactly where it is needed.

It comes in Antique Bronze, Satin Nickel, White and Natural Brass, with 3", 6" or 12" stems, in versions for FreeJack, Monopoint and MonoRail.

Installation & sizing

How the Tellium goes into a system (Visual Comfort's spec sheet plus our advice):

  • FreeJack: plugs into a FreeJack port, canopy or connector (sold separately)
  • Monopoint: a single-head ceiling mount; 4" round flush canopy included
  • MonoRail: clips to MonoRail with the included rail adapter
  • Lamp: one MR16 lamp, 50 W max (sold separately)
  • Transformer: add up the lamp wattage on the run and stay within the transformer rating
  • Aiming: 360° head rotation and 90° pivot; aim accent light about 30° from vertical to limit glare (our rule of thumb)

A low-voltage system needs a transformer sized to the total lamp load. Have a licensed electrician install the system.

Who this is not for

  • Standard line-voltage H, J or L track: it only fits the Visual Comfort systems listed.
  • Anyone expecting a lamp in the box: the MR16 lamp is sold separately.
  • Plug-and-play installation: a low-voltage system needs a transformer and an electrician.
  • Bathrooms with showers, porches or outdoor use: it is listed for dry locations.

Why we carry it

We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009. Tellium is one of the most useful heads in the low-voltage range: small, precise and made for every mounting system, so one design can run through a whole project.

Buy once: durability and care

Let a halogen lamp cool before touching it, and handle new halogen lamps with a cloth rather than bare fingers (our advice). Dust the head with a dry microfiber cloth with the power off. Natural brass is a living finish that patinas and warms with age; a brass cleaner restores an uneven patina (Visual Comfort). Visual Comfort covers it with a 1-year warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Which systems does the Tellium work with?

It is made for FreeJack, Monopoint and MonoRail. The Monopoint version includes a 4" round flush canopy, and its driver sits in the junction box. It does not fit standard line-voltage H, J or L track.

What lamp does the Tellium use?

It takes one low-voltage MR16 lamp, up to 50 watts. The lamp is not included.

How far can the Tellium be aimed?

It has 360° head rotation and 90° pivot. The integrated lens holder takes one MR16-size lens or louver (sold separately).

Is the Tellium dimmable?

Yes. It dims with a low-voltage electronic or magnetic dimmer; which one depends on the transformer that powers the system.

Do I need a transformer for the Tellium?

Yes. It runs on 12 volts supplied by the system's transformer (sold separately). The Monopoint version is the exception: it comes with its own 4" round flush canopy, with the driver housed in the junction box.

Which stem length should I choose for the Tellium?

It comes with 3", 6" or 12" stems. Short stems keep heads close to the ceiling in rooms under 9 feet; longer stems drop the light below beams or bring it closer to artwork and counters (our advice).

Which Tellium finish should I choose?

It comes in Antique Bronze, Satin Nickel, White and Natural Brass. Match the head to your rail or canopy finish so the system reads as one piece (our advice). The White head ships with a Satin Nickel system connector, and Natural Brass is a living finish that patinas with age.

When will the Tellium ship?

Most versions are in stock and typically leave within 2–3 business days. On backorder: Natural Brass, 6", MonoRail (rail adapter included) (expected around October 16, 2026); Natural Brass, 12", MonoRail (rail adapter included) (expected around October 16, 2026). Backordered versions can still be ordered now.
