Best for

Best for entryways, the back of a sofa and living-room or dining-room walls. Behind a sofa, keep the console at or just below the sofa back and about 6–12" shorter than the sofa; in an entryway, hang a mirror about two-thirds the console width, 4–10" above the top, and keep 36" of walkway beside it (our guide).

Who this is not for

• Sofas shorter than about 60": a console behind a sofa looks best about 6–12" shorter than the sofa (our guide).
• Narrow hallways under about 51" wide: at 15" deep it needs about 36" of walkway beside it (our guide).
• Outdoor use: this is an indoor table; TOV makes separate indoor/outdoor concrete console tables.
