Pica is a textured flush mount from Besa Lighting. Besa starts with a clear blown glass that is glossy outside and frosted at the bottom, then applies a band of real fine-grained sand to the inner surface by hand, with the color fully saturated into the coating, and seals it with a clear protective coat. Lit, every granule refracts the light, so the band shimmers while the frosted bottom glows softly. Pica 14 is the middle size for bedrooms, home offices, kitchens and bathrooms.

Choose Creme Sand for a warm, saturated band or White Sand for a lighter, quieter look, then pick the lamping: the LED version comes with two 9W replaceable LED sources (800 lumens each, 3000K, CRI 90+, rated 30,000 hours, dimmable), and the incandescent version takes two 60W max A19 medium (E26) base bulbs of your choice. The glass locks onto a white aluminum fitter with a twist-and-lock bayonet.

Best for

Bedrooms, hallways, kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms where a plain white dome would feel flat. Creme Sand warms up wood, linen and beige palettes; White Sand suits white, gray and black interiors. Use the Pica 14 where the Pica 11 and 17 would be out of scale. Who this is not for

• Outdoor porches or soffits: it is rated for damp interior locations only.

Buy once: durability and care

Switch off and let it cool, twist the glass to release the bayonet, then dust it with a soft dry cloth; wipe the glossy outside gently with a damp cloth and avoid scrubbing or soaking the sand band (our advice). Installation by a licensed electrician is recommended.
