The Belterra 43 Chandelier by Sean Lavin for Visual Comfort Modern is a large-scale ceiling fixture built around one of the most original LED technologies in the collection. Each "petal" is a precisely engineered LED lightguide panel — a translucent acrylic element that channels light through its entire surface, so the whole petal glows rather than just a point source. Arranged in the radiating pattern of a lotus flower, the Belterra 43 is transformative: a modern sculpture when lit, a graphic architectural element when off. At 43 inches in diameter, it is large enough to command a dining room, living room, or hotel lobby without requiring the ceiling height of a full chandelier.

The fixture ships with two 6-inch and four 12-inch rigid stems in a coordinating finish, allowing you to configure it close to the ceiling as a semi-flush mount or hang it lower as a chandelier. It is rated for sloped ceilings up to 35°, and damp-rated for covered outdoor areas, humid bathrooms, or covered porches. Q: Is the Belterra 43 appropriate for an 8-foot ceiling?
A: It can work, but just barely. With the short 6-inch stems, the fixture hangs approximately 34 inches below the canopy — leaving about 62 inches of clearance at 8-foot ceilings, which is below the recommended 7-foot walking clearance. For 8-foot ceilings, the Belterra 30 flush mount is a better fit. At 9 feet or higher, the Belterra 43 is well-proportioned and comfortable.

Q: How does the Belterra 43 look when it's off?
A: The lightguide technology creates a dual character — when off, the acrylic petal panels are translucent and essentially invisible against the frame, giving the fixture a minimal, open, sculptural quality. When switched on, the entire surface of each petal glows uniformly. This on/off contrast is one of the Belterra's defining design traits.

Q: Can the Belterra 43 be used over a dining table?
A: Yes — it is one of the primary applications. For dining use, Visual Comfort recommends hanging the bottom of the fixture 30–36 inches above the table surface, and selecting a table at least 6 inches wider than the chandelier (so 49 inches or wider for the Belterra 43). A standard 60-inch or 72-inch dining table is ideal.
