In coated Japanese paper it gives even, general white light and nods to Japanese interiors; in birch veneer it gives a warmer, cozier glow rooted in Nordic tradition. Two sizes, 9" × 10.6" and 9.8" × 16.5", suit bedsides, kitchens and small dining tables.

Specifications

Brand: Tom Rossau (Copenhagen, Denmark)

Model: ST906 Pendant

Designer: Tom Rossau, 2011

Type: Minimal lamella pendant with a soft, rounded profile

Materials: Natural birch veneer or white coated Japanese paper, hand-assembled

Sizes: 9" diameter × 10.6" high (23 × 27 cm); 9.8" × 16.5" (25 × 42 cm)

Weight: 3.11 lb (small); 3.77 lb (large)

Light source: One E26 socket, max 60W incandescent or 15W LED; bulb not included (Tom Rossau recommends a warm 2700K A19/A60 LED of 5–8W)

Dimming: Dimmable with dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer (not included)

Suspension: 118" (3 m) fabric-covered suspension cable

Canopy: 3.5" × 3.5" × 3.3" polypropylene canopy in white; works on sloped ceilings

Assembly: Arrives fully assembled

Electrical: 120V, UL listed (US version)

Origin: Handmade in Copenhagen, Denmark

Warranty: 2 years (24 months) against manufacturing defects

Lead time: Made to order in Copenhagen: delivered in about 10 weeks (70 days).

Item numbers (MPN): Natural Birch, 9 × 10.6 in (23 × 27 cm): 696; Natural Birch, 9.8 × 16.5 in (25 × 42 cm): 161; White Coated Paper, 9 × 10.6 in (23 × 27 cm): 697; White Coated Paper, 9.8 × 16.5 in (25 × 42 cm): 361

Features

Birch veneer or white coated Japanese paper

Two sizes

Soft, rounded minimalist profile

One E26 bulb, dimmable with a dimmable LED

Handmade in Copenhagen

Best for

Bedsides, kitchen islands, small dining tables, hallways and Japandi interiors. Every Tom Rossau lamp is still built by hand in the company’s own workshop on Frederiksberg Allé in Copenhagen, by a single lamp builder who signs the card that comes with it.

Why we carry it

We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and the ST906 is the easiest Tom Rossau to live with, and a lovely way to start a collection.

Buy once: durability and care

Birch: Dust the birch strips with a soft, dry brush; keep the lamp away from water, steam and humid rooms, because moisture softens the veneer and can make stained colors bleed. Like all natural wood, the birch slowly develops a patina and may shift its shape very slightly over the years: Tom Rossau calls it a living material. Paper: Dust the coated paper with a soft, dry brush; marks can be lifted with a barely damp, well-wrung cloth, keeping clear of the uncoated cut edges of each strip. Tom Rossau covers manufacturing defects for 2 years.
