Michele De Lucchi and Mario Rossi Scola designed it in 1996 around one simple idea: a single blown diffuser whose shape holds the bulb and lamp holder, so the mechanics disappear and only the glass and the light remain. Each diffuser is blown by hand, so no two are exactly alike. The Silver Mirror version is a transmirror glass: a polished silver mirror by day that turns partly transparent when the light inside is on. The shade measures 8.7″ across and 8.3″ high and takes one E12 bulb up to 60 W.

Specifications

Brand: Produzione Privata (Italy, founded 1990)

Model: Acquatinta

Designers: Michele De Lucchi with Mario Rossi Scola, 1996

Type: Pendant light with ceiling canopy

Colors: Silver Mirror, White Glaze (currently sold out), Black Glass (currently sold out), Green Glass (currently sold out)

Shade size: Ø 8.7″ × H 8.3″

Canopy: Ø 4.7″ × 1.6″

Cord: 59″ (Green Glass: 71″)

Weight: 4.2 lb (1.9 kg)

Materials: Mouth-blown Murano glass diffuser; shiny chrome-plated metal fittings

Socket: E12 candelabra base, max 60 W

Location: Indoor

Made in: Italy

Item numbers (MPN): Silver Mirror ML-ACSI -TM; White Glaze ML-ACWH; Black Glass ML-ACBK; Green Glass ML-ACTG

Features

Diffuser mouth-blown in one piece of Murano glass

Silver Mirror: reflective by day, partly transparent when lit

Shiny chrome canopy (Ø 4.7″) and fittings

Compact 8.7″ shade, easy to hang alone or in a row

E12 socket, max 60 W

Best for

Over a kitchen island or dining table in a row of two or three, above a bar counter, in an entry hall, or beside the bed in place of a table lamp. Produzione Privata is the workshop label architect and designer Michele De Lucchi founded in 1990 with Sibylle Kicherer, to make experimental objects free of commission with skilled Italian craftspeople. Its laboratories work in glass, ceramics, wood and metal; the Murano pieces are blown one at a time, so each is similar but never identical.

Buy once: durability and care

Glass and metal made to last for decades. Switch off and let the lamp cool before cleaning. Dust the glass and metal with a soft dry cloth; for fingerprints, use a cloth lightly dampened with water (or a mild glass cleaner sprayed on the cloth, never on the lamp) and dry it.
