Today the company is based in Venice Beach, California, and it still builds lamps around the idea its founders had: make a home warmer, cozier and easier to live in. We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Nova earns its place for one reason: the proportions look expensive and the build is meant to stay in the house for years.

Care, bulbs and dimming

Dust with a dry cloth and skip harsh cleaners. Nova says a damp cloth is fine on clear or mirrored glass, and that a standard touch-up pen covers minor scratches on wood or gold leaf. The 14W A19 E26 light source comes with the lamp; for dimming, Nova recommends quality dimmable, flicker-free LEDs.

California Proposition 65: this product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm.

Want to know more about what you are buying? The factory LED in this torchiere floor lamp is 14W and puts out 1500 lumens, roughly the output of a 100W incandescent, using a fraction of the power and giving off far less heat. An incandescent bulb has a slightly rounder, warmer glow but runs hot and wears out sooner. If you ever swap bulbs, match the base type and pick a dimmable, flicker-free LED at 1500K so the light stays consistent.
