Its design director Peter Morelli developed the arc lamps for the American market, and by 1970 the brand was being called the king of arc lamps. We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Nova earns its place for one reason: the proportions look expensive and the build is meant to stay in the house for years.

Care, bulbs and dimming

Dust with a dry cloth and skip harsh cleaners. Nova says a damp cloth is fine on clear or mirrored glass, and that a standard touch-up pen covers minor scratches on wood or gold leaf. The 18W/LED light source is not included; for dimming, Nova recommends quality dimmable, flicker-free LEDs.

Want to know more about what you are buying? The factory LED in this flush mount ceiling light is 18W and puts out 1500 lumens, roughly the output of a 150W incandescent, using a fraction of the power and giving off far less heat. An incandescent bulb has a slightly rounder, warmer glow but runs hot and wears out sooner. If you ever swap bulbs, match the base type and pick a dimmable, flicker-free LED at 3500K-6500K so the light stays consistent.
