Its light sits inside a smoky grey-fumé blown-glass capsule: a softly painted inner cylinder glows through the tinted outer shell, so the lamp reads as a warm lantern held on a slender nickel stem. It gives a calm, diffused light, dims on the cord and simply plugs in.

Quick facts

Product: Meridiano floor lamp

Brand: FontanaArte, Milan, Italy

Item number (MPN): F441725550NFWL

Type: Plug-in LED floor lamp with glass diffuser

Best for: beside sofas and armchairs, living rooms, bedrooms, studies, hotel lounges, restaurants and reception areas

Height: 66.9 in (170 cm)

Base diameter: 12.2 in (31 cm)

Light source: integrated LED, 25W, 2900 lm, 2700 K warm white, typical CRI above 90

Light: diffused; dimmable with the dimmer included on the cord

Power: plug-in; black power cable with dimmer and power supply with interchangeable plugs, including a U.S. plug

Rating: IP20, dry indoor locations only

Materials: outer diffuser in blown glass; inner diffuser in internally painted Pyrex glass; nickel-plated metal base and stem

Finish: Grey Fumé glass with nickel

Certification: ETL (Intertek) pending

Designer: Gabriele and Oscar Buratti (2020)

Styles: Modern, Contemporary, Transitional

ETL (Intertek) certification for the U.S. market is in progress for this lamp.

Light quality and how it performs

Meridiano works in two layers of glass. The LED sits behind an inner cylinder of Pyrex glass painted on the inside, which turns it into a soft, even column of warm light. That column is wrapped in a blown-glass capsule tinted grey-fumé, which tones the glow down further and gives the lamp its smoky, lantern-like look. The result is gentle, glare-free light that flatters faces and finishes.

At 2900 lm it is bright enough to read beside, and the warm 2700 K colour with a typical CRI above 90 keeps skin, wood and fabrics natural. The dimmer on the cord takes it down to a quiet glow for evenings and conversation.
