It is 9.8 in tall, charges by USB, runs for about eight hours and is rated IP54, so the same lamp moves from indoors to outdoors without a second thought. A clear touch button on top switches it on and dims it.

Quick facts

Product: Cameo cordless table lamp

Brand: FontanaArte, Milan, Italy

Item numbers (MPN): Gold F448005160OOBW; Chrome F448005550CRBW

Type: Rechargeable portable table lamp, indoor and outdoor

Best for: dining tables, nightstands, shelves, terraces, restaurant and bar tables, hotel rooms

Height: 9.8 in (25 cm)

Diameter: 4.8 in (12.2 cm)

Light source: Integrated LED, 2 x 0.7W, 220 lumens, 2700K warm white, CRI above 80

Light: Diffused, dimmable with a transparent touch button

Power: Rechargeable battery, about 8 hours per charge; USB charging cable included (wall adapter not included)

Rating: IP54, suitable for indoor and outdoor use

Materials: Glossy white blown glass; galvanic metal base and decorative ring with serigraphed FontanaArte logo

Finishes available: Gold base, Chrome base

Certification: ETL pending

Designer: Claesson Koivisto Rune (2023)

Styles: Contemporary, Minimalist, Scandinavian, Modern

ETL certification for the U.S. and Canadian markets is in progress for this lamp.

Light quality and how it performs

Cameo glows through the full height of its white glass, giving soft, diffused light all around rather than a beam. At 2700K it is a candle-warm white, and at up to 220 lumens it is bright enough to read a menu or find your way at night, yet gentle enough to leave on beside someone sleeping. The CRI above 80 keeps food, skin and fabrics looking natural.

Touch the clear button on top to switch it on or off, and hold it to dim. The integrated LED never needs replacing, and the battery gives about eight hours from a full charge. On a dining table, one Cameo per two or three diners gives an even, intimate glow; on a long table, space several down the centre about 24 to 36 in apart.

Outdoors, set it on a stable, level surface. The IP54 rating covers splashes and dust, so a terrace table or balcony ledge is fine, but bring it inside to charge and before heavy rain.

Where it works

Homes. Use it on a nightstand that has no outlet, as dinner-table light that follows the meal to the terrace, as a soft night light in a hallway or bathroom, or as a glowing accent on a bookcase. Choose the gold base to warm up dark walls, terracotta or walnut; choose chrome for grey, black and white schemes, glass and steel.
