The look is a little like poured ink and gold leaf, so a stack on a coffee table or bar tray reads as decor as well as protection.

Each coaster is 4 inches across, a good size for a glass, mug or small bottle. The black and gold palette suits glam, modern and contemporary rooms, and the set works in a living room, a hotel lounge or a cocktail bar.

Specifications

Collection: Metropolitan Decor Essentials

Dimensions: 4 in W x 4 in D (10.2 x 10.2 cm)

Materials: Resin

Finish / Color: Glossy black with clear gold-flecked edge

Pieces: Set of four coasters

Item number: MD-MDE-20132

Where to use it

Coffee table: Protect the surface under drinks.

Bar cart: Keep a stack beside the glasses.

Hotel lounge or suite: Offer guests a coaster with each drink.

Dining table: Use them under water glasses at a formal dinner.

Planning notes

Keep the four in a stack on a tray so the gold edges show. The glossy black surface shows dust and fingerprints, so wipe it with a soft cloth before guests arrive.

Pair them with brass bar tools and clear glasses, or with a black tray for a monochrome table. Resin is not heat-proof, so use a trivet under hot mugs and pots. Wipe up spills right away and store the coasters flat so they do not warp. For a cocktail evening, set a coaster at each seat before guests arrive, and keep the extras in a small dish by the bar. In a hotel lounge, a stack at each table keeps surfaces clean through service. The edges are slim, so a stack of four takes up only a small corner of a tray.

Who this is not for

Not for hot cookware: use a trivet under pots, pans and hot dishes.

Not for soaking: wipe up spills and dry the surface.

Care

Wipe clean after use and dry flat.
