Her process is thorough and systematic: she begins by researching what people need and what the market lacks, then turns those findings into objects that are useful first and good-looking as a result. Besides the PILAR table line, her work for blomus includes the SONO bathroom series.

Why we carry it

We are an authorized blomus retailer and have been curating design-led pieces for the home since 2009. PILAR is cast stoneware made from clay, quartz and minerals such as calcite, then fired at very high temperatures. The firing leaves it sturdier than ordinary clay and more opaque than porcelain. Every piece is matte on the outside and glazed where food and drink touch it, which gives the two-tone look and makes it easy to clean. Moonbeam is a soft beige, Agave Green a dark, muted green, Mirage Grey a light gray with green undertones, and Pewter a charcoal. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.

Buy once: durability and care

Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Firing and glazing leave small differences from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the PILAR deep plate?

7-7/8" across and 1-5/8" deep, which is about 20 × 4 cm.

Is the PILAR deep plate a bowl or a plate?

In between: a low dish with a straight wall, made for saucy mains, soups and salads.

How many PILAR deep plates are in an order?

Four plates of one color.

Can the PILAR deep plates go in the dishwasher and microwave?

Yes. blomus rates PILAR stoneware as safe for both the dishwasher and the microwave.

Which colors can I get the PILAR deep plates in?

Currently Moonbeam, Agave Green, Mirage Grey and Pewter.
