The team gave it Japanese table shapes and a reactive glaze, in line with the blomus design DNA: honest materials, quiet forms and colors that last.

Why we carry it

We are an authorized blomus retailer and have been curating design-led pieces for the home since 2009. KUMI borrows its shapes from the Japanese table: low plates with a raised rim, flared bowls, a tea mug with no handle and a tiny dish for soy sauce. The stoneware is finished with a reactive glaze, which responds to the slightest change of oxygen in the kiln, so every firing comes out differently. Dots and irregularities are part of the result, in the spirit of wabi-sabi, where beauty is found in the imperfect. Espresso is a deep, dark brown and Fungi a warm mushroom gray-beige; the two are meant to be mixed. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.

Buy once: durability and care

Dishwasher and microwave safe, according to blomus. Dots, flecks and uneven tones come from the reactive glaze and differ on every piece; blomus notes that KUMI gains character with use over time.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the KUMI serving plate?

11.8" across and 1.6" high (30 × 4 cm).

What is the KUMI serving plate used for?

Serving sushi, salads, cake or fruit, or as a tray for smaller dishes.

Does the KUMI serving plate have a rim?

Yes, a raised rim 1.6" high keeps food and sauces in.

Can the KUMI serving plate go in the dishwasher and microwave?

Yes, blomus rates KUMI stoneware as safe for both.

Which colors can I get the KUMI serving plate in?

Currently Fungi.
